Episode 4: A Behind the Scenes Tour of the Greyhound Fostering Experience

If you’re like many people with a retired racing greyhound or are considering adopting a greyhound, your hound came from, or will come from, a foster home. You may be curious about what it’s like for a greyhound to be in a foster home.  Or, perhaps you’re thinking about opening your home to a foster greyhound and want to know what to expect––and what may be expected of you.

In this episode, we sit down with Patty Comerford. Patty is on the Greyhound Friends of New Jersey (GFNJ) Board of Trustees in the executive officer position of Secretary. She also heads GFNJ’s foster program and has fostered about 250 greyhounds.

During this conversation, Patty gives us a behind-the-scenes look at fostering a greyhound and what both the dogs and people giving them temporary “room and board” experience. She’ll also share some specifics about GFNJ’s foster program. However, the overall messages are applicable, regardless of which greyhound adoption organization you adopt from and/or volunteer for.

“Fostering one greyhound will not change the world. But it will forever change the world for that dog.”
