Greyhound Lab Results: Important Information to Share with Your Veterinarian

Lab results in greyhounds are completely different than they are in any other breed. They even have a higher red blood cell count than all other dogs. This is one factor––a lot of oxygen––that allows them to run so fast.

Lab results influence critical decision making for things like diagnoses and medication. Greyhounds’ physiology also requires a much different approach to sedation. If a greyhound were to be given an anesthesia dosage that another breed would be given, it could be fatal to the greyhound.

Many vets are aware of this. Many are not. When selecting a vet for your greyhound, be sure he or she is experienced with greyhounds. And print, then share, this information with him or her. It could make a life or death difference.
